We assist trans people moving to oregon. we are not a general emergency fund.

Portland’s resources are limited. Before relocating, we encourage people to explore local support options first. Our goal is sustainable relocation. We don’t facilitate moves unless there’s a solid plan in place. Create a Readiness Plan.

Mission & Scope

The Trans Relocation Fund and Aid Network exists to help trans individuals—particularly BIPOC and multiply-marginalized trans folks—relocate to Portland, Oregon, and establish stable lives here. Our primary focus is on:

  • Supporting trans individuals facing unsafe or unsustainable conditions who intend to move to Portland and need assistance with relocation logistics.

  • Prioritizing BIPOC, disabled, and multiply-marginalized trans individuals who experience systemic barriers to relocation and stability.

  • Connecting trans newcomers with essential local resources, including housing, employment, healthcare, and community networks, to ensure they can thrive in Portland.

  • Collaborating with local organizations to build sustainable systems of support for trans individuals after their arrival.

What We DON’T Do

We are not a general emergency fund for all trans people. While we deeply understand the urgent needs of trans folks facing hardship, we cannot provide:

  • Direct financial aid for trans individuals who are not relocating to Portland.

  • Hotel stays, food, or cash assistance for trans individuals in other states (e.g., Michigan) unless they are actively in the process of moving here and have a confirmed relocation plan.

  • Mass relocation of unhoused trans people to Portland without ensuring they can access housing and support services first.

How We Handle Requests Outside Our Scope

  • If someone needs assistance where they currently are (and is not moving to Portland), we will refer them to mutual aid groups and resources in their area.

  • If someone is unhoused and considering Portland, we strongly recommend they first connect with local support services in their area before planning a move. Portland has a severe housing crisis, and relocating without stable housing options can result in increased vulnerability.

  • If someone has a relocation goal but lacks a solid plan, we can help strategize and provide guidance, but we cannot fund or facilitate moves without a clear, sustainable plan.

Who We Prioritize

Because we cannot help everyone, we focus our resources on:

BIPOC and multiply-marginalized trans individuals who face systemic barriers to relocation and stability.

Trans individuals experiencing active violence or discrimination in their current location.

Those with a realistic landing plan in Portland (e.g., housing leads, job prospects, community ties).

People who have attempted to access local resources first but still require relocation assistance.

By centering equity and sustainability, we ensure that our resources serve those who need them most while setting clear and compassionate boundaries for our scope of work.

At the Trans Relocation Fund & Aid Network, we are committed to making relocation safe, joyful, and sustainable. We appreciate your patience and preparation as you plan your move. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
